Mossawa Center's extensive engagement with international stakeholders has been critical in ensuring the success of its projects locally.
The Mossawa Center plays a critical role in advancing the rights of Palestinian Arab citizens of Israel through strategic international advocacy. By engaging with governments, multilateral institutions, civil society, and human rights organizations worldwide, the Mossawa Center amplifies its mission to combat discrimination, promote legal and policy reforms, and build cross-cultural solidarity.
The Mossawa Center regularly meets with European Union officials, members of the European Parliament, and representatives of EU member states to highlight discriminatory policies and the socio-political challenges facing Palestinian Arab citizens of Israel.
The expansion of the Solidarity Project's "peace camp" initiative is a major focus of these efforts, with the Mossawa Center advocating for the inclusion of marginalized groups, such as Haredi Jews, Mizrahi Jews, Ethiopian Jews, and the Russian-speaking community (HAMER), in peace-building initiatives.
In the United States, the Mossawa Center, in collaboration with Friends of Mossawa, actively engages with members of the U.S. Senate, House of Representatives, and the State Department. These meetings emphasize legislative challenges affecting Palestinian Arab citizens, including judicial reforms and the systematic erosion of minority rights. In 2023, Executive Director Suha Salman Mousa distributed briefing papers on human rights violations to U.S. policymakers, advocating for stronger U.S. engagement in protecting Palestinian rights.
Additionally, the Mossawa Center participated in the "Voices for Justice and Peace" seminar, organized by Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) and WESPAC, to discuss justice, human rights, and the broader peace movement in Israel/Palestine.
The Mossawa Center frequently engages with United Nations bodies, including the UN Human Rights Council, the Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD), and Special Rapporteurs on minority issues, housing, and human rights defenders. These engagements focus on presenting reports and testimonies regarding discrimination in Israel’s legal system, land confiscation, police violence, and incitement against Palestinian Arab citizens.
The Mossawa Center has hosted and participated in high-level policy briefings with representatives from embassies and international organizations. A briefing on budgetary discrimination, conducted in partnership with the Friedrich Ebert Foundation, attracted diplomats from over 17 embassies, shedding light on economic disparities faced by Palestinian Arab localities. Mossawa Center works closely with foreign embassies and diplomatic missions throughout the year on various policy issues regarding the Palestinian minority in Israel.
In collaboration with the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the Mossawa Center engages in discussions on economic exclusion and lack of state investment in Palestinian Arab communities, advocating for increased international scrutiny of Israel’s policies.
Through multilateral diplomacy, policy briefings, and direct engagement with global institutions, the Mossawa Center has successfully placed the struggles of Palestinian Arab citizens on the international agenda. By fostering cross-border solidarity and strategic partnerships, the Mossawa Center continues to push for meaningful change and global accountability.
